There are a lot of studies of which whether coffee is a healthy drink or not. Some researches say that drinking coffee can cause cancer others are considering coffee is bad due to its caffeine content. However, many still do believe and supported by studies that drinking coffee has many health benefits. So, why does coffee a healthy drink?
Drinking coffee has become a norm for every household, office, a bonding moment for family and friends. However, the health benefits of coffee, whether it is healthy or not, has been a hot topic over the years. Some studies have pointed out that drinking coffee can lead to immortality that people who love coffee has a longer life span than people who do not drink coffee. New research published in the European Journal of Epidemiology stated that “People who drink 2 to 4 cups of coffee a day have reduced all-cause mortality and reduced cause-specific mortality compared with people who drink no coffee.”
Does this mean coffee is a healthy drink?
Studies have proven that coffee is full of healthy antioxidants and nutrients that are essential to the body. Because of its healthy vitamins and minerals, yes coffee is a healthy drink, but even thou it is healthy, there is still a precaution on dosage. Keep in mind that anything too much is hazardous to health, whether that is healthful or not. It is better to take the expert advice to drink two to three cups of coffee a day than to exceed with the prescribe serving.
In the study of the European Journal of Epidemiology, the researchers have insistent on the ideal amount of coffee a person can drink per day to get its full benefits, and the study shows that 3.5 cups of coffee per day is enough serving to get the greatest risk reduction—15%—in all-cause mortality. For cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality, 2.5 cups reduce risk the most, by 17%. And 2 cups per day is associated with the lowest relative risk in cancer mortality—4%—compared with drinking no coffee.
This new found study is another testament that coffee is healthy thou it is clearly stated by the researchers that beyond the prescribed dosage are no longer essential to health.
What does in coffee that makes it healthy?
It is not only the powerful antioxidant of coffee that makes it healthy, coffee contains 1,000 bioactive elements which includes the most popular substances such as caffeine, chlorogenic acids, and diterpenes. However, base on the new study, the researchers have hypothesized that several antioxidant and anti-inflammatory compounds are the ones responsible for lowering mortality risk.
“Coffee contains various antioxidant components such as caffeine, chlorogenic acid, melanoidins, cafestol, kahweol, and trigonelline,” which may prevent oxidative damage, wrote Youjin Je, ScD, assistant professor, Department of Food and Nutrition, Kyung Hee University, Seoul, South Korea, and co-authors.
Again this new study is another attestation that coffee is healthy which can help in prevention to some diseases, but this does not signify that if it’s healthy, we can abuse our selves into drinking more than the prescribed daily serving. We can always enjoy our daily jolt of java but in moderation.
