Specialty Coffee Baba – India – Limited Edition – 8.8 oz. Whole Bean
Across this coffee’s region of origin unfolds the story of a Sufi saint by the name of Baba Budan. According to legend, Baba Budan discovered the wonders of coffee during a pilgrimage to Mecca in the 16th century and smuggled away seven “moka” beans by hiding them in his beard. Returning home, he planted them on the hillsides of Chikmagalur in the Karnataka region, and thus began the rise of Indian coffee in the region.
The hillsides of Chikmagalur are now known as “Baba Budan Hills.” The region produces Arabica coffee on plots situated between 1000 and 1500m altitude. The appellation represents 15 000 hectares and farms primarily S.795, SL9, and Cauvery varieties.
