Our Story

El Gusto Foods brings you original Costa Rican coffee and cocoa: premium roasted whole-bean coffee and cocoa powder, harvested and processed in Costa Rica. Our roots run deep, with more than 150 years of family experience in coffee growing. Our coffee plantations sit at 1,200 to 1,900 m above sea level on volcanic, mineral-rich soil, where the cherries ripen slowly and develop more sugar, complexity and density. Our range includes San Marcos and San Ramon medium roasts, Espresso and Dark Roast, single-serve drip bags for coffee on the go, and award-winning gourmet cocoa (Winner, Most Innovative Health & Wellness Product).

To bring you the power of pure nature through high-quality products made in line with eco-friendly policies, while creating a positive social impact in our producing communities. Our goal is to preserve and share the wonderful native flavors of the finest regions of Costa Rica.

Our Approach

The land matters. Soil composition, temperature, rainfall, macro- and microclimate, and the specific farming practices all shape the final flavor of coffee and cocoa. Our coffee grows on volcanic soil at 1,200 to 1,900 m, where deep drainage and minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, calcium and zinc build the body of the bean, and higher altitude means sweeter, denser fruit. We follow high quality standards, controls and policies so the best attributes of every bean are preserved and developed during processing.
